A New Flood Forecasting Centre Opens

A £10.5 billion flood forecasting centre has been opened to help insurers predict flooding. This 24hr centre will use the latest technology to provide data to local authorities on coastal and river flooding.

It will be interesting to see how effective this warning system will be. Previous flooding in June 2007 was predicted and warnings issued but the deluge was too great to be controlled or contained.

Extreme rainfall often causes sudden surges in surface water leading to flooding. Loss assessors can be useful in managing the effects of flooding, when insurance companies are unable to focus on the individuals needs.
